What Do I Need to Know if I Am Pregnant in High School?

Finding out you’re pregnant in high school can feel scary, confusing, and isolating. You might be wondering what your parents will say, what your boyfriend will think, or how this will affect graduation. Before you let fear make decisions for you, take a breath. You have options, legal rights, and people who want to support you.

At ALC Pregnancy Resource Center, we provide no-cost, confidential pregnancy services to help you understand what’s happening and what comes next. Same-day appointments are available, and you can speak with trained professionals who care about your future.

You can also text us 24/7 at (502) 401-1344 or book a private, no-cost appointment anytime.

Your Visit Is Private

We know one of the first things on your mind might be: Will anyone find out I was here?

Your visit to ALC Pregnancy Resource Center is completely confidential. We will not contact your parents, guardians, or school. What you share with us stays with us. You are free to come in, ask questions, and get the support you need without fear of anyone being notified.

You deserve a safe space to think clearly, and we are committed to being that for you.

Your Education Is Protected

If you’re pregnant in high school, you have rights under Title IX. Schools cannot discriminate against you because you are pregnant or parenting.

That means:

  • You can stay in your regular classes and extracurricular activities.
  • Pregnancy-related absences must be excused if medically necessary.
  • You are entitled to reasonable accommodations, such as rest breaks or modified seating.
  • You cannot be forced into an alternative school program just because you’re pregnant.

If you experience issues with any of these protections, you can contact your school’s Title IX coordinator for support and guidance.

Confirming Your Pregnancy and Exploring Options

Before making any decision, it’s important to confirm your pregnancy. ALC offers no-cost pregnancy testing and ultrasounds.

A pregnancy test can detect the hormone hCG, but it cannot tell you how far along you are or what is happening inside your body. An ultrasound can help estimate how far along the pregnancy is, confirm that the pregnancy is located in the uterus to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, and assess viability, which is often detected through a fetal heartbeat. Viability means the pregnancy appears to be developing as expected and has not ended in miscarriage. Having clear information can help you slow down, avoid assumptions, and make decisions based on facts rather than fear.

You can also meet with a trained professional for options counseling to talk through your next steps. If you’re unsure how you feel, that’s okay. This is your space to ask honest questions without pressure.

If your boyfriend or partner is involved, men’s services are available so he can receive support too. Ask about our Empowered Parenting program.
