Learning you are pregnant can be emotional and confusing, especially if your partner does not share your feelings or support your decision. You may feel alone or pressured, but you do not have to go through this by yourself. There are ways to move forward, find support, and make a confident decision about your next steps.
ALC Pregnancy Resource Center is here to listen and help you sort through your options. Schedule your free appointment today to confirm your pregnancy details and discuss them in a confidential, safe setting.
Here are steps you can take if your partner isn’t supportive but you want to continue your pregnancy.
If you have not already, confirm your pregnancy with a medical-grade test and ultrasound. These steps will help verify that your pregnancy is viable and determine how far along you are in your pregnancy.
Having accurate information allows you to make informed decisions about your health and future. You can also explore insurance options (if necessary) and begin prenatal care.
If your partner’s reaction worries you or if he has ever been verbally or physically abusive, take action to protect yourself.
If you are hoping to end the relationship but are nervous about backlash, there are resources available to you. A national resource is National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800.799.SAFE (7233). We also have several local resources available. SAFE services at any UofL hospital are a wonderful resource, as is the 24/7 hotline (844-237-2331) by the Center for Women and Families. Any of these resources can help you make an exit plan, especially if you’re living together. Your safety matters most.
Your partner might react with surprise or anger at first, but his feelings may shift over time. Allow him space to process while maintaining your boundaries. It is okay to focus on your well-being and take the time to decide what comes next.
Depending on your situation, he may eventually come around and be supportive of your pregnancy. Use your best judgment to discern whether this relationship has a future.
Lean on friends, family, or mentors who care about you and can support you throughout pregnancy. The team at ALC Pregnancy Resource Center also provides a safe space to discuss your emotions, questions, and options without judgment.
You do not have to face this pregnancy alone. Schedule your confidential appointment today to receive free pregnancy services, compassionate care, and support designed just for you.
